Dark silhouettes of various insectoid enemies and bosses lurking in a cavern

Silksong features a huge bestiary with dozens of distinct enemy families and over forty boss fights. Instead of spoiling every surprise, this page outlines the broad categories and highlights the major confrontations so you know when to prepare.

Enemy families

Enemy types in Pharloom range from fragile grubs to hulking constructs. Here are a few early families to watch for:

  • Drapeflies & Drapemites – fluttering bugs that nest in cloth and swoop unpredictably. Stay above them and punish their recovery.
  • Cragglers – lumbering creatures with rocky shells that lunge across platforms; bait their charge, dash past and strike from behind.
  • Bloatroaches – bulky beetles that swell and explode when angered. Keep your distance and let them self‑destruct or use projectiles.
  • Scholarly Suite – robed casters that fire numbered volleys; observe the pattern before committing to an attack.

General rules:

  • Learn a single safe punish for each enemy type; repeat it until you acquire better tools.
  • Use verticality. Downslashes and pogo‑bounces control space and neutralize rushdown.
  • Respect double‑damage threats. Many foes in Silksong hit harder than those in Hollow Knight; take time to reset spacing rather than trading blows.

Major bosses

Silksong’s story is built around a series of memorable bosses. The following list covers the main encounters from Acts 1 and 2, with light notes on their mechanics, locations and rewards:

  • Moss Mother (Moss Grotto) – The first boss acts as a gentle skill check. She hovers on either side of the arena and swoops down with her stinger; jump or dash to avoid her and counterattack. Periodically she slams the ceiling, causing rocks – or later, baby mossbugs – to fall.
  • Bell Beast (The Marrow) – Trapped in a silk web beneath a sea of bells, this aggressive creature burrows and leaps at high speed. She tosses bells that ricochet around the arena. Defeating her unlocks the Bellway fast‑travel system.
  • Lace (Deep Docks) – A nimble fencer who punishes sloppy dashes. She strings together thrusts, swipes and stationary flurries. Master dash timing and don’t get baited by her feints.
  • Fourth Chorus (Far Fields) – A giant multi‑armed beast. Damage its face at the apex of your jump while dodging its sweeping arms. The fight takes place on a crumbling platform surrounded by lava.
  • Sister Splinter (Shellwood) – Suspended from the ceiling, she lashes out with massive claws and summons thorny vines and spinning leaf insects. Clear the adds quickly to create openings.
  • Widow (Bellhart) – A bell‑bound arachnid who rains down bells while unleashing furious swipes. You’ll need to juggle dodging falling bells with close‑range melee.
  • Last Judge / Phantom (Blasted Steps / Bilewater) – The Act 1 finale is a brutal duel against a towering judge whose sweeping attacks punish greedy heals. The Phantom variant fought in Bilewater offers a different reward.
  • Cogwork Dancers (Choral Chambers) – A pair of mechanical waltzers guarding the Architect’s Melody. Defeat them to open the next narrative phase.
  • Grand Mother Silk and further Act 2 bosses (The Cradle) – Late‑game encounters test every skill you’ve learned. Be prepared for multiple phases and limited healing opportunities.

Optional and secret bosses

Pharloom also hides an array of optional bosses. Some examples include Skull Tyrant, a colossal skeletal brute in The Marrow; Moorwing, a knife‑wielding moth secreted away in Greymoor; Shrine Guardian Seth, a cymbal‑shielded ant in Shellwood; Great Conchflies and the Last Judge rematch in Act 3; Trobbio’s stage fight in the Whispering Vaults; and Act 3 variants of earlier bosses. Tackling these optional encounters grants unique tools, crest upgrades and lore.

Preparation checklist

Learning bosses in Silksong requires patience and planning:

  • Bring a gap‑closer and a control tool. A ranged red tool (like the Sting Shard or Cogwork Fly) helps chip away safely, while a control tool (like Tacks or Cogwork Wheel) clears adds.
  • Set crests for survivability. Equip blue tools such as Druid’s Eye (extra Silk on damage) and Fractured Mask (free hit) when learning a fight. Once you’re confident, switch to damage‑focused setups.
  • Identify safe heal windows. Watch for post‑slam or post‑dash moments to Bind. Heals are quick but leave you vulnerable.
  • Practice your parry and dash timing. Many bosses have attacks you can dash through or deflect; mastering these opens large punish windows.
